Liverpool Photography

I visited Liverpool for the first time last week and was surprised at how vibrant the city was! The regeneration of the dockside is extremely exciting and how they interface the historic industrial past with the modern aesthetic will be interesting to see.

The diversity of materials and facades across the city was captivating and reflects the character of Liverpool as it continues to develop itself as a leading city of arts and culture.

Here are a selection of photos from my trip to Liverpool below:

Dustin McNeer is featured in Vulkan Magazine Online. Shot by Ahmad Barber, the 18 year old NEXT Model wears Diesel, Calvin Klein and Hanes in the spread titled 'Controversy'.

Whilst McNeer didn't quite take the competition seriously on ANTM (and was eliminated for it despite coming back), let's hope he does with his modelling career.

'Spotlight' Film Review

Based on the true story of the unmasking of child molestation and cover-up that occurred within the Catholic Archdiocese by the Boston Globe, 'Spotlight' is a gripping and honest account of how its exposure rocked not only the Catholic Church but the reporters in the year long investigation.

The film's story arc was simple and straightforward but the Human aspect of the movie gave it an element of surprise. The dark and sensitive themes as well as the overhanging sense of injustice drove the storytelling. As an audience, you are asking the same questions the reporters are: how has it been covered up for so long?

'Steve Jobs' Film Review

Steve Jobs' death in 2011 has already sparked two major motion pictures on the Apple CEO and whilst the former starring Ashton Kutcher was not well received, Danny Boyle's take on the revolutionary entrepreneur has been met with acclaim, gaining Academy Award nominations for its two leads.

Telling the story through three acts, the narrative revolves around the moments before Jobs' (Michael Fassbender) product launches and his often heated interactions between his aide Joanna Hoffman (Kate Winslet), ex boss John Sculley (Jeff Daniels), wife (Katherine Waterston), colleagues and daughter.

'Joy' Film Review

Yet another David O Russell, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro collaboration, 'Joy' follows 'Silver Linings Playbook' and 'American Hustle' to set expectations high on the movie about a female entrepreneur in the 90s, loosely based on the real Joy Mangano.

Joy Mangano (Lawrence), a divorced mother of two, had dreams to create her own inventions, held back by her parents' divorce and her mother's struggles. Now, 17 years later, Joy is determined to reclaim her dream, by inventing the Miracle Mop, only to discover the joy of success is not without obstacle.

Nyle Dimarco in Nylon Magazine (Feb 2016)

Nyle Dimarco's winning Nylon Spread is finally released in the February issue of the magazine. Shot by Mark Hunter, the spread is quite underwhelming and definitely not the best we've seen from this up and coming model. I mean, have you seen his work with Tony Veloz

Nonetheless, the publicity this will give him will undoubtedly boost his already growing career since appearing on Tyra Bank's hit TV show and garnering over 600,000 Instagram followers.

London Olympic Park Photography

Last Summer, I finally visited the London Olympic Park (Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park) and it was a really delightful designed public realm with landmark architecture nestled within.

In particular, the controversial viewing platform by Anish Kapoor, to be turned into a slide. The Aquatics Centre, Velodrome and the Olympic Stadium remain as legacy sports grounds available for public use.

But it is really the public realm that stands out, with pedestrians and cyclists accomodated for, riverside walks and wildflower meadows interspersed across the park in a varied and dynamic way, becoming an iconic precedent for many future landscapes and public realm projects.

Open House 2015

I was privileged to be able to volunteer at this year's Open House, at The Crystal, Greenwich, designed by Wilkinson Eyre Architects. The fully glazed geometric building features some interesting sustainable systems and a community garden, with views towards the O2 and Canary Wharf.

Despite trying to make the most of the day, Lloyds was closed last minute, but I did manage to get up to Tower 42, which has some pretty good views too, my favourite being able to see Canary Wharf over the Gherkin.

Hopefully this coming year I'll be able to tick Lloyds off the list!

Didn't bring my pro-camera, so the quality isn't great, but I've finally found time to edit and post these photos so check out the best shots from the day below:
