I wasn't going to review this but it was such a mess that I just had to. This may sound more like a rambling than anything, but on the eve of 2016, this is actually probably the worst movie I have seen this year (Oh wait, there was Keanu Reeves' 'Knock Knock', but that's a different story).
Imdb's synopsis sums up the movie pretty well: "A dying CIA agent trying to reconnect with his estranged daughter is offered an experimental drug that could save his life in exchange for one last assignment".What it doesn't tell you is just how much this father daughter relationship penetrates the story.
Unlike 'Taken', '3 Days to Kill' puts this relationship to the center of the story, merging family drama with action thriller (and an attempt at some comedy?), unfortunately a suicidal formula. The disconnect of a high octane action sequence with going to the fun fair with your daughter and eating cotton candy just does not flow. Props for trying.
The whole thing is just so implausible that as the movie reaches its climax (if you haven't given up), you no longer care for the characters and predictably so, the ending was as you'd expect.
Kevin Costner appears to be the poor man's Liam Neeson whilst Hailee Steinfeld's talents are wasted in another angsty teen role. Amber Heard however, oozes with sexuality in a character, that though flawed, is atleast likeable and consistent in the whole thing.
'3 Days to Kill' tries to merge to polar opposite genres to disastrous results that is almost comedic. The only redeeming factor is Amber Heard's oozing sexuality. A complete waste of two hours- I watched this so you don't have to.
