Disney Pixar's 'Cars' Film Review

So I have put off seeing Cars as I've heard rather bad things about it from my friends and it's the lowest scored Pixar film on Rotten Tomatoes, but I've always had this curiosity of watching it given it IS Pixar and can Pixar really make a bad movie?

Hot-shot rookie race car Lightning McQueen could make history by winning the Piston Cup, but an unseen three-way tie sends the three cars to a tie-breaker race a week later in California. Whilst making his way to the race, Lightning McQueen gets stranded in Radiator Springs, where he causes havoc and is held captive until he makes amends. Will he make it to the race in time?

'Arbitrage' Film Review

Business magnate Robert Miller (Richard Gere) is about to sell his hedge fund in order to hide his company's losses and evade arrest for fraud, but when he enters a car crash killing his mistress, he flees. As the investigation proceeds, the truth begins to unravel, with the consequences affecting both his wife (Susan Sarandon) and daughter (Brit Marling).

The film took a while to get started, but once all the pieces were in place, it was a tense and riveting feature, aided greatly by the sound track. The dilemna that Robert faces, the risk of both public and private scrutiny, drives him to dangerous decisions. Will his business deal go through before the truth is revealed?

'Sins of Jezebel' by TOMAAS

This stunning fashion editorial by TOMAAS, featuring model Lilya Polokhova, mixes art and photography, with a fragmentation and coloration that emphasises beauty in a different way.

There is a regality in the imagery, despite the effects of ruin with the dripping paint work/illustration, offering an imaginative dialectic.

Britney Spears 'Britney Jean' Deluxe Edition Album Review

As Spears' eighth studio album, 'Britney Jean' is reportedly Britney's most personal album to date and also an album she has been most involved with, having co-wrote each track that is on the record.

The new album features ten tracks and four bonus tracks:

1. Alien 3.5/5
2. Work Bitch 4/5
3. Perfume 5/5
4. It Should Be Easy (ft. 4/5
5. Tik Tik Boom (ft. T.I.) 3/5
6. Body Ache 3/5
7. Till Its Gone 3.5/5
8. Passenger 4/5
9. Chillin' With You (ft. Jamie Lynn) 2.5/5
10. Don't Cry 3.5/5

11. Brightest Morning Star 4/5
12. Hold on Tight 3.5/5
13. Now That I Found You 2.5/5
14. Perfume (The Dreaming Mix)

'Britney Jean' opens with 'Alien', an average track but is reminiscent of her past sounds of 'Circus' and 'Femme Fatale'.

Lead single 'Work Bitch' gives off 'Don't Keep me Waiting' vibes from previous album 'Femme Fatale' and works successfully in a similar vein to Circus' lead track 'Womanizer', but failed to hit the mark on the charts, peaking at No 12 in the US.

Second single 'Perfume' which is arguably her best track on the record, features a softer beat but a ridiculously catchy hook and chorus.

Kelly Clarkson 'Wrapped In Red' Christmas Album Deluxe Edition Review

Who can believe it's already been two years since her last album 'Stronger'? But Clarkson does not disappoint, by releasing a very special holiday album titled 'Wrapped in Red', just in time for Christmas.

With a combination of original tracks and classics as well as covers, Clarkson's uniquely stunning voice captures the mood in a sublime way, while injecting a sense of her pop style.

1. Wrapped In Red
2. Underneath The Tree
3. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
4. Run Run Rudolph
5. Please Come Home For Christmas
6. Every Christmas
7. Blue Christmas
8. Baby It's Cold Outside
9. Winter Dreams
10. White Christmas
11. My Favourite Things
12. 4 Carats
13. Just For Now
14. Silent Night

Deluxe Tracks:

15. I'll Be Home for Christmas
16. Oh Come, Oh Come Emmanuel

Of her original tracks, 'Wrapped In Red' opens the album in style as a mix of pop catchiness and festive cheer. Though following a typical holiday tune formula, Clarkson makes it work wonders and showcases her immaculate voice. '4 Carats' is an upbeat track with some tongue and cheek which Clarkson has a lot of fun with.

Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar' Film Trailer Preview

A teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Nolan film 'Interstellar' has been released.

Featuring a voiceover by Matthew McConaughey, snippets of historial footage showing man's great achievements at reaching space are cut with shots from the movie. Though the plot is still relatively unknown, it is said to feature wormholes and alternative dimensions (hopefully more mindfuckery) lol.

With an all star cast that includes McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Wes Bentley, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine and Topher Grace, this is going to be one hell of a movie to look out for.

The movie will be released next November. Check out the teaser below and the full trailer/posters after the jump:

'Edge of Tomorrow' Film Trailer Preview

Tom Cruise stars as a soldier in upcoming action movie 'Edge of Tomorrow' opposite Emily Blunt.

The movie sees Cruise fight aliens but repeatedly dying and reliving the last day of battle in some weird time loop. Directed by Doug Liman (of The Bourne Identity), the movie definitely captures some of that style. It seems like an interested premise, albeit done before, but we'll see how this one pans out.

The film will be released next June. Check out the trailer below:

Khopoli House by SPASM Design Architects

Located in India, the Khopoli House by SPASM Design Architects is a beautiful display of concrete usage in architecture. Responding to the context of the basalt outcrop, mixing basalt in the cement mixture gives the concrete a dull grey colour.

The large rectilinear forms manifest at different scales, forming stunning details such as the stairs, wall cladding and floors.

Wonderland Part II by Kirsty Mitchell

Kirsty Mitchell's ongoing photography project titled 'Wonderland' just received an infusion of exposure after a new set of photographs were released. The elaborate costumes and dramatic composition give these shots a real dialogue and narrative.

See my previous post on the project here. Check out the rest of the shots below:

Emergent Behavious by Thomas Jackson

Photographer Thomas Jackson has created this series of stunning images which sees ordinary objects suspended in nature to form patterns of emergent behaviour which he describes below:

"The hovering installations featured in this ongoing series of photographs are inspired by self-organizing, "emergent" systems in nature such as termite mounds, swarming locusts, schooling fish and flocking birds. The images attempt to tap the mixture of fear and fascination that those phenomena tend to evoke, while creating an uneasy interplay between the natural and the manufactured and the real and the imaginary. At the same time, each image is an experiment in juxtaposition. By constructing the installations from unexpected materials and placing them where they seem least to belong, I aim to tweak the margins of our visual vocabulary, and to invite fresh interpretations of everyday things. "

Exploring and developing his methodology, the items are now suspended using transparent lines which can barely be seen, reducing the use of post production.

'The Hunger Games: Catching Fire' Film Review

The highly anticipated sequel to 'The Hunger Games' finally hit cinemas last week and I was one of the eager ones to catch it over the weekend.

After winning the 74th Hunger Games and inadvertently defying The Capitol with their berry fiasco, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) embark on their victory tour across all twelve districts. Seeing Katniss as a beacon of hope, riots start to occur and the pair are threatened by President Snow (Donald Sutherland) to put on a good show to appease the districts, proving that their act of defiance in the arena was no more than a display for love for one another.

Despite all efforts, violence increases in the districts and President Snow has no choice but to eliminate the source of hope: Katniss.

Ever 25 years, there is a special games called the 'Quarter Quell', where a new rule/theme is drawn. As the reaping for the 75th Hunger Games draws near, the announcement that the reaping will be drawn from the existing pool of victors in each district shocks everyone.

Will Katniss be able to save herself and the ones she loves in a games like no other?
