Tracing Paper Sculptures by Mary Button Durell

Artist Mary Button Durell creates fascinating sculptures using tracing paper and wheat paste. The result is what is termed as a biomorphic abstraction, where the forms appear organic and biological but abstracted. The translucent quality makes them look like cells and living structures, much like sponges and coral.

The addition of colours (dyes?) adds another dimension to the pieces- how they absorb the colour and is transpersed is also an organic process.
