London 2012: The Olympic Opening Ceremony

Whilst I may be too busy to watch the Olympics themselves, who could miss the Opening Ceremony? Having been wowed by the Beijing show four years ago, I was not expecting much from the London offering and was rather embarrassed seeing what was happening 5 minutes before it began- it looked like a mess. Thankfully, once the show started, things began to pick up and it turned out to be a pretty interesting one.

The moment I saw Daniel Craig I questioned whether this would just be a parade of British celebrity. We did have Mr Bean (Rowan Atkinson), Emilie Sande, Paul McCartney and David Beckham all take part in the show- I personally wished Adele would have wowed the stadium with her voice but we were not so lucky.

Split into a range of distinct segments, we witnessed the raining down of Mary Poppins, a giant Snape, a crazy Mr Bean musical performance and an outrageous travel through British music with a girl, her lost phone and her romantic journey.

-The factory chimneys coming up

-The Olympic rings being cast
-Queen jumping off plane- hilarious

-Guy who calls girl when she's lost her phone
-NHS nightmare sequence

Overall, I still think I prefer Beijing's given it told a lot more about the culture, the people, the story. I praise our daring risk taking in terms of the wide variety of topics covered, but it wasn't quite coherent and seemed to showcase bits and bobs from here and there but not the best of bring British.

  1. I think it was a hotpotch of things and worked out nicely. Not regimented and stilted, some of it was showpiece and some of it looked a little messy but overall, I think the ideas were great

  2. Greetings! Very helpful advice in this particular post! It’s the little changes which will make the most important changes. Thanks a lot for sharing!
