'Morning Glory' DVD Film Review

I was attracted to this film knowing Rachel McAdams would be on it and the fact it would be a comedy similar to 'Devil Wears Prada' added slightly to the appeal.

The DVD cover is fun and uplifting, reflecting the characters' personalities very well. Quite surprised they didn't put Patrick Wilson's name on the cover... :S

TV producer Becky Fuller (Rachel McAdams) is hired to pick up a morning show 'Daybreak' which is on the verge of cancellation, Becky hires former award winning news reporter Mike Pomeroy (Harrison Ford) to join current host Colleen Peck (Diane Keaton), not knowing they would be at war with each other.

With Mike unwilling to partake in any story other than 'news', the two hosts fighting to be the one to say 'goodbye' at the end of the show, and a love interest pursuing her (Patrick Wilson), Becky must juggle all the aspects of her life whilst saving the show, and her ass.

The setup was extremely smooth and quick; I was engaged very early on and the pace of the movie was good. At no point did the film drag and time flew by. I briefly looked at the time at the one hour mark but that was in shock that so much time had passed being so caught up in the movie!

From the writer of 'The Devil Wears Prada' it was undoubtable that this movie would be quite similar, and it is. Pretty and perky girl goes to the city to work for a horrible boss. The only difference is that here, Becky doesn't 'lose' who she is, which I really like. I felt her character was strong and persistent- she knew who she was and stayed true to herself.

The focus of the movie really was on the programme and on Becky's work life. Despite having a love interest, they really didn't have much screen time together. It's rare that a film nowadays could still be so engaging without the constant nudity and sex, I think today's film industry could use more films like this!

It was quite obvious the show would get some sort of revival but just how was beyond me. The segment which shows the outrageous things they did really made me and my family laugh. This was definitely one of the funniest moments of the movie. I mean, if you want to see Diane Keaton kiss a frog of do sumo... ;)

And the resolve was also bittersweet. It was a great ending and the laughs were still going right till the end.

Rachel McAdams- Becky Fuller
Harrison Ford- Mike Pomeroy
Diane Keaton- Colleen Peck
Patrick Wilson- Adam Bennett

Also stars Jeff Goldblum.

Rachel McAdams was great as Becky- she was emotional, perky, sweet, strong. I loved it when she got angry and yelled at Harrison Ford's character. She also looked stunning in every shot... even when running.

Harrison Ford, however, was strikingly old and almost unrecognisable. He did do 'emotionless arrogant asshole' quite well. Not sure he'll gain many fans doing the role, but it fit the character.

I just feel sorry for Diane Keaton having to kiss the frog... do real morning show hosts have to do outrageous things like this?

The DVD contains commentary, interviews and a deleted scene.

'Morning Glory' is a sweet, heartwarming film starring the beautiful Rachel McAdams that is funny and time really flew watching this. Several scenes made my laugh out loud, and if you liked 'The Devil Wears Prada', you'll probably like this too.
Now I can't wait to see McAdams in her next film, 'The Vow'!!
