Selenicereus grandiflorus, or Queen of the Night flower is an exotic flowering cactus, blooming only one night each year or once over several years. Upon spotting a bud forming, I waited every day for about two weeks until it finally flowered a few days ago, so thought I'd take photographs and share with you this rare event.
This is one of the most delicate and exquisite flowers I have ever taken photographs of. There are just so many structures to it, you can photograph it from any angle and there is a point of interest. After over 100 frames, I have selected the best ones to share with you.
In this post, I aim to share with you the process of the flower blooming over several hours, and I have even created two animated GIFS below (click continue for more to see) so I hope you enjoy them and let me know what you think!
Macro shots coming soon!
