City Futura by B+U Architects

“City Futura” is a visionary urban design proposal by Los Angeles-based firm B+U for an expansion of the City of Milan set in the year 2210. The project is part of a development plan for fifteen different sites located on the outer ring connected by the Milan Metro line.

City Futura is superimposed over the existing city leaving most of its buildings untouched and tapping into existing infrastructure and expand it. Via Evolo.

I think the design is far too sci-fi and looks like some sort of alien invasion, though there are some beautiful shapes there and it looks really phenomenal as a sculpture (see below). Interesting idea about leaving pre-existing buildings intact and expanding them...

Abstract Paintings by Alex Steckly

Inspired by nature, with some works titled 'Canyon' and 'Outer Space', US artist Alex Steckly created a series of beautiful abstract paintings. I love the fluidity and movement of his work, the colour schemes, the dynamic shapes.

I especially like the uncontrolled dripping over the rigid shapes, there is just something very beautiful about the contrast and the destruction.

See the rest of his paintings below:

Cute Animals: Funny Animals

Sometimes animals just do the funniest things and when I saw this panda picture I just knew I had to share it- it is soo cute- apparently doing a panda roll?? Whilst animals sometimes do funny things on their own, most of the time it takes a bit of help from us, whether it is giving them a toy to play with or putting them in a position to be funny... I love the pic with the hippo clan chewing on that crocodile!

Infinity Pavilion Beach House by Margot Krasojevic

The Infinity Pavilion beach house designed by Margot Krasojevic, sits on top of a cliff edge, merging with the steep granite cliffs of Cape Town, overlooking the town of Llandudno. Graduated from the Barlett and having worked for Zaha Hadid, Krasojevic's design features beautiful curves and seamless shapes in an experimental and creative manner.

Gregoire Vieille Photography

Just found Gregoire Vieille's photography and I really like his commercial works- the photos of make up, watches and textures (click through to see) are so simple, but effective. Not only do they make great ads, they are great pieces of photography that you could have on a wall.

His simplistic treatment of colour, light and contrast gives the images life. Check out the rest of the images below:

Platonic Solids (2008) by Michael Hansmeyer

Another project by Michael Hansmeyer, titled Platonic Solids, "explores how a purely operations-based geometric process can generate complex form."

"Rather than studying the possibilities in combining numerous primitives, this project examines the potential inherent in a single primitive given an appropriate process. It takes the most primitive forms, the platonic solids, and repeatedly employs one single operation – the division of a form’s faces into smaller faces – until a new form is produced. The resulting forms display a novel aesthetic and an astounding complexity that largely defies attempts at reductionism." Via Michael Hansmeyer.

Again, I won't pretend I understand how any of this is formed, but they are so intense and dynamic, it is quite a complex concept but with great results! Can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

House in Three Acts by Xlab

'House in Three Acts' is a project by Xlab and the idea is truly fascinating with stunning results. The complexity of the forms and the way it's put together in stages is really interesting. For some reason, when I look at the images, maybe it's the colours or shapes, I keep thinking of 'The Shire' from Lord of the Rings.. :S

Via Evolo:
PHASE 1: Three cellular systems were developed to drive the tectonics of the house, beginning with a truss system that also defined its park-like circulation. Secondly, we framed the house by a structural cage that had minimal point of contact to the ground, allowing for the enclosure cell to negotiate between the natural and artificial landscape.

PHASE 2: In dealing with the separation, the house mutates in section, dividing the program of the house into two distinct areas, splitting each personal space above and keeping the shares space below.

PHASE 3: The earthquake creates a drastic change in elevation, causing the structural members to mutate vertically in order to re-stabilize the house in its final evolution.

Britney Spears 'I Wanna Go' Official Music Video

Britney has just released her music video to a fan favourite song "I Wanna Go". The video is pretty abstract and is more reminiscent of a bad girl Avril Lavigne Music Video [SEE AVRIL'S WHAT THE HELL MUSIC VIDEO] as Britney swears before leaving a press conference and causing terror.

Her 'naughty' acts include groping a fan, flashing and seducing a policemen and attacking robot paparazzi, before she gets picked up by a crazy man and rides off into the sunset as he pours milk all over himself.

Whilst I liked this 'fun' Britney, the robot paparazzi and the crazy man with the milk is all too much for a video which started off so upbeat and fun; in the end it just descended into utter chaos/crazy.

Check out the official music video for yourself below:

'A Dangerous Method' Film Trailer Preview

Directed by David Cronenberg, 'A Dangerous Method' is about the relationship of Sigmund Freud (Viggo Mortensen) and Carl Jung (Michael Fassbender) as they take on a special case, Sabina Spielrein (Keira Knightley).

Mentally unstable (presumably due to abuse from her father at a young age), Sabina seems like an impossible case, but as her condition improves, Carl seems to be seduced by her and there is all sorts of crazy dark relationship mess and drama thrown in.

This definitely looks like an interesting film and Keira has taken a different role, in which she is taken to new heights with her crazed look (Oscar Nom?)... why is it that playing mentally unstable characters gets all the Oscars?

Anyway, the film is yet to have a release date.

'Puss in Boots' Film Trailer Preview

A new trailer for the upcoming 'Puss in Boots' film has been released. This film is more like a prequel to the Shrek films, telling of how Puss in Boots got his name.

Puss (Antonio Banderas), along with Humpty Dumpty and a bad kitty (Salma Hayek) must save the world by stealing the duck that lays the golden eggs or something like this. The trailer has some exciting bits in, but none of which really made me laugh, which makes me think that this film will be very similar to Shrek 4, in that it isn't actually that funny.

However, I am looking forward to the new fairytale characters and how they will expand on this world.

Source Code Film Review

When I first saw the trailer for Source Code, I was deeply intrigued as to how the film would end, given the premise of the whole venture was set out, and indeed the ending is what this movie is all about.

Waking up on a train opposite a girl named Christina (Michelle Monaghan), Colter Stevens (Jake Gyllenhaal) discovers that he isn't himself, but is controlling another man's body. As he panics, the train explodes and he returns to a capsule, where he is undergoing a mysterious mission, led by Colleen Goodwin (Vera Farminga) and Dr Rutledge (Jeffrey Wright), called the Source Code.

The Source Code is based on the idea that when someone dies, their memory of 8 minutes before their death is retained like the residue/halo of a light bulb that's just been switched off. Colter Stevens, through the Source Code, is made "relive" those eight minutes, described as "time reassignment", in order to find out who the bomber is and prevent a imminent second attack, but will his mysterious involvement with the Source Code and the distraction of a beautiful girl prevent him from completing this mission?

Cute Animals: Animals Sleeping

Here is another instance of some masterful photography- I can't get over the beauty of this red panda photograph it gives me chills!!! There is something beautiful about an animal sleeping, it makes you want to go over and stroke them... or in the case of a polar bear cuddle up to them and snooze!

Addicted to... Theme Hospital PC Game

Amidst all the revision I'm doing, I've just finished Theme Hospital- completed the Chinese version years ago when I was younger but now got the English version and enjoyed it once more... and since the last time I played, my organisation skills have definitely improved!

Theme Hospital involves you managing a hospital, largely requires you to build the rooms in a functional layout as well as hiring competent staff that won't kill your patients (some are totally unreliable, slow and absolute psychos)!

There are ten levels overall to conquer, each one growing in complexity (more funny diseases and crazy machinery) with different challenges. Some will require you to build in a small space, others a lack of money. In one, there is a limited amount of good doctors and so on.

The best thing about Theme Hospital is the humour, in the form of these wacky diseases (slack tongue, bloated heads to name a few)... there is something so funny about when your hospital goes wrong, people start dying (hello grim reaper) and so on... This is just such a classic game you can play over and over! LOVE IT!

Love Bites Season 1 Episode 3 Recap

The first story in this episode is titled 'Goodbye Boob' where Judd's colleague Dan from his tattoo parlour likes a girl Alex who invited him to a party, but little did he know, she has breast cancer and it was a 'Goodbye boob' party.

Anyway, it was an average story, though Dan was more likeable towards the end of the segment. I did however learn two things from this story, one, 'goodbye boob' parties exist and two, there is someone in the world who could have hair like Dan's.

The second story titled 'Ninja Vanish' is superb- a little ghetto- but still, it was pretty decent. Ricky likes to perform what he calls the 'Ninja Vanish' on women- deleting his number on their mobile at night and vanishes before moving onto the next woman, until he met his match. Unable to delete Angie's phone number at night, he tries again in the morning, but little did he know Angie had something up her sleeve, the Houdini ink trick.

Realising he no longer has her number, he tracks her down only to be told what a douche he is. Good on her!

The final story brings us back to the long awaited Annie (Becki Newton), called 'Cutlets', and Michelle Trachtenburg guest stars again (YESS) though she is more of a side character in this ep, but still she is SOO hilarious. Anyway Annie is set up on a blind date by her sister with a guy called Matt. Annie arrives and accidentally meets the wrong Matt (Matt Long).

The real Matt she was supposed to go out with turns out to be obsessed with her pregnancy and the other Matt helps her escape. This was by far the most uplifting of the three stories and Becki Newton does such a good job at being charismatic- she is truly the reason to watch this show!

Queen of The Night Flower Photography II (Macro)

Yesterday I shared with you the photos I took of this flower (Queen of the Night, Selenicereus grandiflorus) as it bloomed over time, but I also took some macro shots of the different structures it possessed. I loved the spiky sepal which surrounded the petals, these being extremely soft and light, whilst the carpel and stamens were extremely intricate, the stigma resembling some sort of sea anemone (it was quite sticky too).

It's such a dynamic flower that it's hard to do it justice through mere photography, but if I get the chance, I'd love to take more photos of this... maybe next year.

Queen of The Night Flower Photography (+BLOOOM GIFS)

Selenicereus grandiflorus, or Queen of the Night flower is an exotic flowering cactus, blooming only one night each year or once over several years. Upon spotting a bud forming, I waited every day for about two weeks until it finally flowered a few days ago, so thought I'd take photographs and share with you this rare event.

This is one of the most delicate and exquisite flowers I have ever taken photographs of. There are just so many structures to it, you can photograph it from any angle and there is a point of interest. After over 100 frames, I have selected the best ones to share with you.

In this post, I aim to share with you the process of the flower blooming over several hours, and I have even created two animated GIFS below (click continue for more to see) so I hope you enjoy them and let me know what you think!

Macro shots coming soon!

Angelina Jolie in Louis Vuitton 'Core Values' Campaign

Angelina Jolie's first campaign with Louis Vuitton has been released. Shot in Cambodia by Annie Leibovitz, where Jolie adopted Maddox, LV chose her to front their 'Core Values' campaign. Wearing khaki shorts/trousers and a thin top, Angelina is rocking the rustic look on her wooden boat.

She looks so beautiful here as if it is a screenshot from a Tomb Raider movie, the only thing out of place is that LV bag--- you just wouldn't have one paired with such clothes, in such setting. BUT, it does draw attention to it and the colours in the image compliment it in every way.

Poppy Photography

Was in the garden and spotted one of the poppies looking so beautiful and purple- it is close to dying- but I find it the most stunning at this point, where the petals are curled and the seed is ripening...
Anyway, experimented with some close ups and macros of different floral systems and liked how the images turned out! The obstruction and creation of windows exaggerates the shapes and structures found and highlights the complexity of such an organism. There are also some movement shots I experimented near the bottom~ looks really dynamic!

'Andy Grammer'- Andy Grammer Album Review

I first heard about Andy Grammer from a Taylor Swift tweet (if she likes it, I guess I would too) and was hooked to 'Miss Me' from his EP and now that his album is out, I have to say this is an upcoming artist to watch out for!

The simplistic album cover carries throughout the album art which I love. The colours, the props, whilst it is simple, it works effectively and is fun and upbeat, much like the whole of this album!
The album contains 11 tracks, some of which were released as an EP before the full album release:
1. Keep Your Head Up 4/5
The first track on the album and the lead single 'Keep Your Head Up' is a Michael Buble infused 'feel good' song which is insanely catchy. Whilst I find the lyrics a tad cheesy, I'm sure it is a personal song to Andy given his background and how everything is finally turning out right for him.

2. Fine by Me 4/5
Another catchy track with a very similar sound to 'Keep Your Head Up', 'Fine by Me' is perhaps eclipsed by the first track, though it is really strong in itself, perhaps lacking variation being so close to the opening track. Still, I actually like this more than 'Keep Your Head Up'.
3. Slow 5/5
This beginning of this song grabs you instantly, well me, anyway, and it is so addictive. It has a different sound to the others due to it's Maroon 5 feel, he sounds somewhat like Adam Levine here. I really like this song and it's one of those you can't stop listening to. Favourite track so far!

Cute Animals: Animals Fighting

I chose this particular topic as I find it makes some stunning photography. To be able to capture such a dynamic and powerful moment is extraordinary! There are some images though, that make these animals seem extremely comedic in their fighting.

Whilst animals do fight naturally for territory, mates, food or otherwise, animals have been made to fight each other in the past (and some still do) for entertainment which I think is wrong so hopefully this raises a bit of awareness for that and be able to enjoy animals without needed to hurt them!

Love Bites Season 1 Episode 1 and 2 Recap

Now that the Summer is approaching, almost all the regular 'big shows' have finished, leaving me with little or no TV to watch, until I found this.

'Love Bites' is a new series by NBC and I'm only watching it because Becki Newton (Amanda from Ugly Betty) stars in  it. The show features different stories and, is about love and relationships through the three recurring cast: Annie (Becki Newton), Judd (Greg Grunburg, from Heroes) and Coleen (Constance Zimmer).

In the first episode, Annie's friend Cassie (Krysten Ritter, Confessions of a Shoppaholic, 27 dresses) lies about being a virgin to get a guy, as Annie is pregnant (Becki is pregnant in real life so they had to incoporate this into the plot) and she is always getting male attention. The guy treats her amazingly and when she tells him the truth, finds out he lied to her too about being a writer. He tells her guys have to treat her friend Annie nicely because she's pregnant and that she's the wingman... keep reading...

Half Brother by Kenneth Oppel Book Review

Kenneth Oppel is the acclaimed author behind the 'Airborn' trilogy and the 'Silverwing' saga, both of those series I loved and was extremely excited to read this new book called 'Half Brother'.

With a very simple design for the cover, which uses very standard iconic symbols, it is presented in a scientific and structured style, only broken by the image of the chimpanzee we discover to be 'Zan'. This is an extremely effective cover and definitely grabs the eye.

Ben Tomlin moves to Victoria as his parents (who are scientists) begin a new study on language and cross-fostering, bringing into the family a baby chimpanzee whom they named 'Zan'. The aim of the experiment was to see if they could successfully teach 'Zan' sign language. Before long, Ben is very much the big brother to 'Zan', playing with him and helping him sign.
Despite the success and speed at which 'Zan' is learning new words, the experiment meets many obstacles including scientific validity, protests and even media scandal. Ben's also distracted by a pretty girl at school named Jennifer, his choice of friends at school and his combative relationship with his father.

'Hanna' Film Review

I was instantly engrossed by the movie the moment I saw the trailer and it was exactly as I thought it would be if not more. Kudos to Joe Wright, who is also behind the films 'Atonement' and 'Pride and Prejudice'.

Trained in the wilds of Sweden, Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) is sent by her father (Eric Bana) to kill corrupt CIA agent Marissa (Cate Blanchett). When she is ready, she sets off a signal which leads to her capture by Marissa. Taken to a Moroccan safe house, Hanna asks to speak to Marissa, but instead a decoy is sent to her. Hanna kills the decoy and escapes, following her father's orders to meet up with him in Berlin.

Trouble follows her as she makes her way to Berlin and she discovers that there is far more to her existence than she first expected, influencing the way she sees the world and others. Is she truly ready for the world she has been so sheltered from all her life?

Hannah Jones by Shawn Welling

Some of these test shots of Hannah Jones are really beautiful. Taken by Shawn Welling, Hannah shows she can be high fashion and commercial in these shots. I love how she is versatile and takes risks. Some are just perfection without much effort on her part, whilst others you can see she puts a lot of energy into the body language. She will go far as she radiates positive happy energy! #TEAMHANNAH!
