Cute Animals- Meerkats

There was a picture in the Metro last week of these really cute meerkats, and after doing some Google image searches, I have to agree, they are SO sweet!!! Just look at those big black beady eyes and their furryness and who can disagree that they are adorable?

If you still don't believe me, look at these pictures, just stare at them and your heart will literally MELT! They just make you want to cuddle it...

I love the images of them like cuddled together, like a ball of fur with heads sticking out...

They are just balls of awesomeness.

Amazing Spider Webs

Spiders are amazing creatures but are also deadly. You can't blame someone for being scared of them, but then everyone has to admire them for their ability to create. They are artists, builders, hunters; all in one. The webs they create are stunning masterpieces, their home, as well as a deadly trap for their prey.

Below are some gob-droppingly spectacular spider webs, both as a piece of art, as well as a trap. I certainly wouldn't want myself caught in some of these! My favourite ones has to be where the threads are thin and there is some sort of radial pattern formed.

All are amazing!

Facebook has a group for everything

I have endured this for too long. Facebook has a group for everything. YES, EVERY SINGLE DAMN THING IN THIS WHOLE WORLD THAT is unecessary, random and totally pointless.

As much as I embrace the fact that thousands of people share the fact they like sleeping on the cold side of the pillow, hating the little triangle that the windscreen wiper misses and that when they're home alone and hear a noise, they freeze and listen for a few seconds; I can actually associate with them, and are small things that we wouldn't talk about but think everytime we see it... BUT some groups are just plain unecessary:

-If X amount of People join- I will do _____
Seriously, people who start these groups just want to get fans and have the biggest group or some crap like that... seriously, those who shave their heads, get married, or name their son Spider Pig really should seek therapy.

-What teachers call copying in a test... we call team work
NO, it's called CHEATING.

The list goes on but I'm too tired to mention them...
And on that note, I'm going to go on a group adding rampage and block up everyone's newsfeed with Matthew Yip just joined the _________________group.

EDIT: I actually failed to join more than 3 groups I can really associate with. ><

Sorry for the rant, it's just annoying that people join every single group that exists and then complain they reached their limit and can't join anymore groups. Urgh...

Maybe I should start a group that says "I joined too many Facebook groups that I've reached my limit" or something to that extent. OH WAIT, it already exists. LAME... Or maybe "That Bailey's Advert Girl has really nice lips"... SHE DOES! OH MY... there is already a group on it... *dies*

Ugly Betty Season 4 Episode 7 RECAP

So the episode started with reports of Willhemina wearing crazy clogs and sports wear... really DOES NOT suit her... XD but thankfully she returns with a very stylish and high fashion fur coat. Marc dressed well as well, and both their outfits are very well colour co-ordinated :P

Elsewhere, Amanda asks Matt out on a date... notice her crazy awesome hair... Its like some crazy amonite mollusc shell fossil... it just looked amazing! :)

Their date consisted of Wii Sports Tennis with Amanda wearing very "inappropriate) clothing haha...

But the episode mainly consisted of rescuing Daniel from the "Community of the Phoenix" which resulted in Betty stalking the male bathroom...

After also infiltrating the building with her cover up story of writing an article, Betty didn't really get anywhere... So an all-out rescue mission with Betty, Matt, Amanda and Claire was in action...

In the end, they did manage to rescue him... and Natalie leaves... so is this goodbye forever? Hopefully yes, she was awefully annoying in the last few episodes.

Other mentions include Claire receiving the details to the son she gave up for adoption:

I have no idfea what this is, looks like a seat, and it is awesome... it looks so stylish... not sure how it would be used, but would be fun to just sit on it, maybe sleep? hmm..

Also, Marc found out about Nico's plot to blackmail Willhemina and tells Willhemina. Willhemina schemes to trap her daughter in the act of stealing the family heirloom and banishes her from her sight... Goodbye Yaya Da Costa, you were a good Nico. :)

So next week is the Bahamas episode, where sparks will fly between Matt, Amanda and Betty. Becki Newton (as Amanda) 's real life brother Matt Newton will be joining the cast, I think as Marc's love interest? Don't know how long for, but would be interesting as Marc is Amanda's real life best friend... :P

Also, apparently Connor might NOT be dead? D: lots to look forward to!

Art On A Polystyrene Cup (

I have always loved the idea of creating art out of something simple, ordinary and something we find everyday... and I came across these awesome polystyrene cup drawings from He (i think it's a he) literally has hundreds of these drawn cups... and instead of just having one cup, he links them in a series and almost tells a story.

I really like these designs, some are just abstract, others have a deeper message, and some are just pure random!

Below are just a selection of some of the ones I managed to get through...

There are elements I like from all of them... the text is so sharp and crisp which is very effective, and then theres the textured tones which work great on such a textured surface... and fine detail works great too..!

Which one (s) is/are your favourite?

The Fame / The Fame Monster- Lady Gaga Album Review

This is Lady Gaga's second album, titled The Fame Monster, and included is her debut album "The Fame". Effectively, we are getting two albums for the price of one.

The album cover shows Lady Gaga in vintage clothing, and is a black and white cover. It is a very well styled Gaga, but doesn't reflect the change in music style she has undergone, yet the black and white does reflect the dark undertones found in some songs.

Disk One
1) Bad Romance 5/5
Bad Romance is an AWESOME start to the album. It has a new feel to her music. It still feels like Lady Gaga but with an added edge. The "Ra ra ah ah ah, Ra ma..." bit is very catchy and there is a fluency throughout the song. The chorus is upbeat and exciting, as is the song as a whole.

2) Alejandro 4.5/5
A nice beaty introduction, and feels quite "The Fame", with a catchy chorus. It does feel a bit more poppy than the Gaga we have known, but it is a nice upbeat and easy to listen to song.

3) Monster 3.5/5
This song starts slightly synthetic and a bit too electronic, but turns into a more "Gaga" feel. Again, the chorus sounds a bit too poppy, yet mixes with a dance and rhythmic backing... It is a weird mix which somehow works!

4) Speechless 4/5
It starts with a powerful vocal from Gaga, and develops into a powerful ballad, which is interesting, and is a different side to Gaga, we have rarely seen. I think it works but Gaga really should stick to her dance tracks, because that is what she does BEST.

5) Dance in the dark 3.5/5
The song starts off with a great Gaga feel, but moves onto a song that is another track that sounds more poppy and mixed with dance than the Gaga we have known and loved. It isn't a bad song, but it is starting to feel more generic opposed to the unique and original style we have got to know.

6) Telephone (Featuring Beyonce) 4.5/5
This is perhaps the track which seems to link with "The Fame" the most. It is a great and catchy dance track which is the better of the two Gaga and Beyonce Collabs. I don't really like the Beyonce bit in this, it does not add anything to the song. The song is great for the first two verses, then gets a bit annoying towards the end.

7) So happy I could die 3.5/5
It starts off with a great depth which is catchy and addictive. It has some parts which are good, and others which again, are a bit too poppy...

8) Teeth 2/5
This is a really weird song, lyrics wise and song wise... She sounds a bit like Christina Aguilera! It has a very strong rhythmic backing, and right now, I am just NOT into this song...

Favourites: Bad Romance + Telephone
Tracks to Skip: Teeth

Disc Two: THE FAME

1) Just Dance 3.5/5
Just like it's title suggests, this track is extremely catchy and would be deemed a dance track hit. Whilst it is quite easy to listen to, it loses its appeal after a while, and the Colby O'Donis bridge or coda whatever it was near the end was abit annoying... I just don't really like that bit, it doesn't add anything to the song.

2) Love Game 3.5/5
Another catchy song, although not as great as other tracks. Surprised its put second in the album, but i guess them we can say it gets better as it goes. The song is another one which is great to listen to with all its catchy-ness and upbeat quality but will lose its flavour soon.

3) Paparazzi 5/5
This i have to say is the best song in the entire album. Not only is it, again, catchy, but has some sort of different tone which makes it stand out. It has real depth and the video to the song "makes" it. Out of the whole album, this particular one is unique, and isn't just another dance hit. It has more depth and substance and that's why it's my favourite.

4) Poker Face 4/5
This is the second favourite as it sounds original, contains all the things we like... the repetition seem to appeal to the modern market (Britney's womanizer, Rihanna's umbrella, Kelly Clarkson's i want you etc). It has had so much hype, and it deserves it, but is a bit overrated compared to Paparazzi.

5) I like it Rough 3.5/5
The intro is very addictive and very upbeat, draws you in gradually. It feels very poppy and is one of those songs that is uplifting. However, the lyrics are quite shallow, nothing unique.

6) Eh, Eh (Nothing else I can say) 3.5/5
Has a very poppy and happy intro... and the "gaga" bit makes it kind of like her tag on songs. It is unique and interesting. Again it's a contrast which is quite nice, but seems abit odd.. and this track stands out to being the most odd. It sounds a bit generic and less edgy and mysterious like the rest of her album.

7) Starstruck 3.5/5
A very techno intro we are thrusted into, but we get her "gaga tag, along with a cherry cherry boom boom". The song is a more dance techno feel, it is back on track, and it is very catchy and you will have this stuck in your mind for ages. It is a good track, but not amazing.

8) Beautiful, Dirty, Rich 4/5
The intro has a punk rock feel to it, which is new to the album... but it sounds a lot like the intro to Sugababe's (One Man Revolution?)... and doesn't sound too original. It is a likeable track and gets catchy the more you listen to it... the album moves in a good direction.

9) The Fame 4.5/5
Again, following the style of beautiful, dirty, rich, this is a very modern catchy track, with a unique tune and edge that has Gaga written all over it. This is another one of my favourite tracks. The intro itself gets you into an upbeat mood, whilst the beaty verse is addictive. <3>

10) Money Honey 4/5
A prominent start to the song with strong vocals and again another catchy track; it is Gaga's style and she turns it into her own. However, by now, some of her tracks are sounding abit similar, but it's still got Gaga written all over it.

11) Boys Boys Boys 4/5
Very Summery, and upbeat... the repitition again is catchy. The chorus is good, abit detached from the verse. It's a bit Avril Lavigne, but becomes Gaga with its beats and rhythm, catchy-ness and addictiveness!

12) Paper Gangsta 4/5
I didn't like this song the first time I heard it but it gradually grows on you... It has a slightly darker start, and starts with Gaga being quite "gangsta", which then turns into normal Gaga for the chorus... It is a upbeat and catchy song, but it isn't my favourite.

13) Brown Eyes 3.5/5
Sounds a little like she's drunk, but its listenable... No need to go "bro-o-ow-n" again and again... This isn't really a dance track, nor is it a great pop song, nor a strong ballad... It feels very detached from the rest of her album... However, as a song on its own it is listenable... but anyone could've sung this.

14) Summerboy 3/5
A nice little change... but the end of the chorus starts to sound abit like McFly, but nevertheless still upbeat and catchy. Although a little typical pop, and slightly less "edgy" it is acceptable... although personally I would've omitted it from the album. Again, it does not feel like Gaga...

15) Disco Heaven 3.5/5
Another dance track is thrusted in, this time a slightly awkward position... It does sound a bit like S club and out of all her tracks, does not stand out to be any better than the others.

16) Again Again 4/5
A very dramatic change... seems to be in a whole new universe compared to the other tracks... this one sounds more classic, like a Duffy or Adele song, and I think is a nice end to the album, but Gaga is best at what she does, and it's NOT a timeless ballad. Nevertheless, the song is good on it's own...

Favourites: Paparazzi + Poker Face + The Fame
Tracks to Skip: Summer Boy + Retro, Dance, Freak

Disc One contains very solid tracks, but they start to sound a bit too generic-ly poppy opposed to the Gaga dance pop we have known... Teeth is the only one that I don't really like... It is a good album but I was expecting A LOT more... Bad Romance and Telephone are my favourite tracks on here.

Disc Two has some amazing songs that have quickly become hits such as Poker Face, Paparazzi and Just Dance. However, there are also tracks that don't really fit in and feel awkward in there, such as Again Again and Brown Eyes.

Lady Gaga is a singer to watch. Her music is taking the world by storm, as is her fashion, style and just crazy music videos! If you've never heard of her, or would like to get into her, there's no better place to start then getting this album!

Rated R- Rihanna Album Review

The singer recently undergone the "Chris Brown Assault", where the singer was abused and sadly beaten to a pulp, then abused again my media takeout, paparazzi and immense amounts of gossip, and here we are months later with Rihanna's fourth studio album, titled Rated R.

I first heard these tracks at her Nokia sponsored London concert at Brixton Academy, which was such an amazing concert. She performed several of her new tracks (Russian Roulette, Hard and Wait Your Turn), and a mash of her hits, such as Umbrella and Take A Bow. Having seen the quality of her new album, I just had to get it.

The album cover is a very dark and slightly gothic look, showing Rihanna donning an eye patch and heavy make up, with a very unique hair do, one we have previously seen on the Pokemon Pidgeot. The cover looks like it could be ripped out of her recent Vogue Italia magazine spread, although personally, it is a step down from her previous album's Good Girl Gone Bad, where although it is also dark, it was a very high end and stylish, yet classy look.

This move in a different direction perhaps indicate that her music is also taking a turn to the dark side, and perhaps it is... for better or for worse.

This album contains 13 tracks, although it includes "Te Amo" which was a demo from a while ago.

1. Mad House 3/5
This is the introduction to the album and does not feature Rihanna singing this much. It is a dark and great intro to the album. It definitely has a rock and roll feel to it, which is a nice change from her previous pop albums.

2. Wait Your Turn 5/5
The second single is also the second track on her album!! The song is not only catchy and addictive, but changes so much throughout the song, that it can be enjoyed by almost anyone.

The song is fresh and does not feel like a "Good Girl Gone Bad" regurgitation, where she just reuses her strengths. She builds on it, and turns it into a crazy dark fiend of a song; I really like this song, and is one of my favourite on the album.

3. Hard (Ft. Jeezy) 3.5/5
Whilst this song starts off with a great backing beat, Rihanna's "Yea Yea" is off putting and the Bajan influence brings us back to her "Music Of The Sun" era which is a big "NO NO", although the urban part does lift it up, but only slightly. The song aims to be catchy and it succeeds in that aspect. It also succeeds in that dark side we expected from the album.

Lyrics wise, almost nothing can be gained on the first few plays. One struggles even to pick up what she is saying (thanks to her Bajan accent. Good or bad thing, YOU decide), but if you dig deeper, perhaps you'll understand that she's basically being an arrogant B* and slaying all her other competitors with the Um-be-rella (watch the Ciara parody) in her back pocket.

At 2 minutes, there is a great "doowwwnnn", which perhaps makes the song, but then ruined by the mindless babble Rihanna produces at 3 ½ minutes. NEXT.

This just isn't a song for me, although I'm sure many other people will like it :P

UPDATE: I have grown to like this much more now... It IS catchy and her arrogance is to love.

4. Stupid In Love 5/5
Just looking at the name of the track, I was immediately reminded of Beyonce's "Crazy In Love"... and another dance pop hit? Rihanna proves us wrong, giving us another powerful and emotional ballad. It isn't amazingly original, it does sound quite typical but it is easily likeable and catchy- this is the Unfaithful / Take A bow of Rated R. From the introduction, we already get the same vibe we got from Unfaithful, and this is easily one of the best songs on the album!

5. ROCKSTAR 101 (Ft. Slash) 3/5
The song starts with a different kind of feel, a much darker and gangster feel. Lyric wise it definitely reflects that, and it is a very loud mouthed approach to the song. It is a very different Rihanna we are hearing here; a good girl gone bad! I found this quite hard to get into but a few listens and it is ok. It is not my favourite, and for those who have been long time fans of Rihanna may feel the same way.

6. Russian Roulette 5/5
This is her first single, taking the form of a powerful ballad. The song is strong, with insightful and deep lyrics, however, as it was posted on, which also showed a promo video of "Wait Your Turn", with lyrics "the wait is ova"; THAT was much more catchy and enjoyable than Russian Roulette.

Had that not appeared simultaneously, Russian Roulette would not be upstaged, and would reign in all its glory before Wait Your Turn is officially released.

However, Russian Roulette is a song which is difficult to play along with other songs. It is somewhat unique in that sense, but it blends in well with the album on the whole.

7. Fire Bomb 4.5/5
The song starts with a very rock and roll, "guitar hero" style intro, with an upbeat tune. This is another ballad, which sounds great. It sounds a bit like Kelly Clarkson (who I love) so this song is great. It has that extra edge with these guitars which is great. This is another one of my favourite songs, with a cool name 

8. Rude Boy 3/5
The whole songs sound more Beyonce than Rihanna to be honest. It feels a bit superficial and doesn't have the depth and meaning the other songs have. It feels like she has regressed to her good girl gone bad era, and perhaps even before... which is NOT good.

9. Photographs (Ft. 3.5/5
The song has a great piano introduction, and Rihanna starts off great. It has quite a catchy verse with much for substance. This is a good collab with; his style evident throughout the song. It is a good song, but not amazing. It's also one that is quite easy to listen to and would be one the Black Eyed Peas fans would like.

10. G4L 3.5/5
A very dancy tune is introduced to us, but it is quickly changed by Rihanna's singing, turning the song into a VERY dark mood. Again, it is quite explicit and personal to her... The song has a mix of dark and upbeat bits which is interesting, but not sure it works too well. It is also not generic, so quite difficult to get into...

I like the quick bit... but not sure this whole style works 100% for Rihanna... I like the dark beat, but the song on top doesn't seem to work... This song is a bit of a mess for me.

11. Te Amo 4/5
A catchy and slightly exotic backing beat. Whilst we might expect a lovey dovey ballad from the name, it is quite an interesting and exotic song. It is a rhythmic song, but not one that is very addictive. It is upbeat and seems more suited to Bajan Dance, as I can picture this being played whilst people just rock it out...

It's not a bad song, but again, seems a little too "Music Of The Sun" for this mature Rihanna. It's nice that she's going back to her roots, and it IS an improvement, but it's not amazing for a comeback album after everything that's happened.

As it was a demo from before, it lacks the dark undertones of this album, which makes this an odd one out... but it is easy to listen to...

12. Cold Case Love 5/5
Another ballad which has a catchy rhythm in the background, another cultural element sounding very Bajan... It is a nice song, it is not easy to get into, but after a few listens it is very good, and especially if you listen to the whole album you can really feel the consistency.

Near the end, the beat gets much stronger and that works well in engaging the listener. A strong song and the lyrics are quite interesting and personal in some respect... It isn't my favourite song, but a good one.

UPDATE: Listening to this on repeat, it has SO much depth and I love the way it crescendos near the end. It is definitely one of my favourite songs on this album.

13. The Last Song 4/5
The song starts slow, and isn't particularly exciting to begin with, but it gradually develops into something more listenable and interesting. I think it is quite a good song to end, as if a catharsis from a tragedy... It is not dark, but light, which lifts the mood from listening to the whole album.

It definitely ISN'T the last song for Rihanna, but perhaps the last in her phase of aggression, sadness and growing up.

My favourite tracks are: Cold Case Love, Wait Your Turn, Stupid In Love, Fire Bomb

Tracks to skip: Rudeboy, G4L

Rihanna's fourth album brings an incredibly dark edge to her already existing style, and we're not talking about her constant wearing of fishnets, leather and provocative clothing. Instead of just releasing another album of dance pop hits which are catchy and all the same, she builds on it and brings it to another level- an arrogant, dark and moody one.

This huge change shows that she has not only grown as a person, but her way of expressing what she wants, evident through the depth and explicity of the lyrics. Whilst her previous albums touched mainly on love and romance in a superficial way, the lyrics found in Rated R are much more personal, which elevates the quality of the album. There is also a nice touch that links all her previous work together, which are the Bajan beats and the cultural rhythm which is evident through many of the tracks and makes the album consistent.

Whilst most of the songs do fit into this dark genre, a few of them stand out, such as Te Amo, Rockstar, Photographs and G4L. This could be due to the variation in people she worked with such as Slash and, and are obviously different when listening to this.

I have found that listening to this album, there are a bunch of songs I absolutely love, but a few that I really don't like... caught between two extremes. Surely, this album won't appeal to all fans of Rihanna, as this is a very DIFFERENT style to her previous works, but there is something here for EVERYONE. We expected her to come back with a BANG, and in a sense she did with her outrageous and loudmouthed album (and the end of Russian Roulette), but not completely, hence we ask ourselves, is this perhaps, "OVA-rated"?

Ben Nicholson

For my current art project, I am looking at reliefs, and was recommended this artist by my teacher called Ben Nicholson. His work is very crisp, clean and sharp. They appear simplistic and minimal, but they are effective in highlighting the shapes, and the importance is not the surface but the shadows and lines formed.

I am also experimenting with this in my project. What happens if we don't make the lines but have them forming through the use of light and dark, especially playing around with windows and shadows!

These are great and interesting pieces of work.
